Adventures with Chocolate!

Chocolate Goes to Arizona

My 'family' recently had to go to Arizona for some work meetings and to catch up with some friends ... BillyBob and I got to go along! We've never been to Arizona ... in fact, I don't think we've ever been anywhere that far West ... so, this was a grand experience and we were very excited!

The desert is very, well, hot and dry! 'Dad' thought that everything looked very thirsty! The best part of our trip was seeing our friends, the not-so-fun part was being squashed into 'Mom's' carry-on bag for the flight - it was very cramped in there! I don't much care for that part of travelling. I wish I had my own bag, but I won't complain, at least I get to go along! We did get to see some really neat things...

Chocolate at the Lower Salt River
This is BillyBob and me with our friend, Brad, in the Tonto National Forest. I don't know why they call it a forest, though, there aren't many trees! BillyBob was disappointed we didn't see the Lone Ranger and Tonto, though.

Chocolate in a cactus
We got up close to a cactus-like plant. There are a lot of prickly things in the desert. The scenery was very pretty, though. Dusty!!

Chocolate in the Tonto Basin
There were many scenic places to take photos. We really liked this mountain against the pretty blue sky. We even saw some wild bighorn sheep!
Chocolate on the Apache Trail
Here we are on the Apache Trail. This drive turned out to be much longer than we thought - several hours on a very bumpy, dusty, narrow gravel road. If I had teeth, they would have hurt!
Chocolate in the Tonto Basin
With our friend, Brad, again. He was so much fun. He wanted to make sure we didn't get dehydrated, so he was always offering us water or GatorAde. He's so thoughtful!

Sunset on a saguaro
Pretty, huh? I like these cactus, they look kind of like funny people!
Chocolate at Meteor Crater
Look at this - we went to Meteor Crater! A big meteor from outer space made this giant hole in the ground. It was REALLY a BIG HOLE - several miles across!
Meteor Crater
We're not in this photo, but I wanted you to see what Meteor Crater looks like. It's really big, I could not believe it. What was even funnier was the weather - it was MUCH colder here (and stormy) than at our hotel! I was glad for my fur coat!
Chocolate at Meteor Crater
This is what it looks like at the bottom of the crater.
Chocolate at Meteor Crater
Isn't this neat? This is a piece of the meteor that made the big crater! It was neat to touch it. Do you know that this little rock weighs 1500 pounds? That's a heavy rock! It is made mostly of iron, just like BillyBob's shoes - fortunately his shoes aren't that heavy, though.
Chocolate at Montezuma's Castle
This was something neat to see, it's a Native American cliff dwelling called Montezuma's Castle. We couldn't get close to it, but it was really interesting.
Montezuma's Castle
Can you imagine climbing up a cliff to reach your house? I would be afraid of falling out of the window! This is a very old house, it was neat to see.
Chocolate at the hotel
Even though we were on vacation, we still had to work. BillyBob and I were catching up on news and email, and helping 'Dad' program his GPS so we wouldn't get lost again.
Chocolate at Rock Art Center
This was something unusual, too. We went to the Rock Art Center. No, it's not about music! It had thousands of rock carvings - called petroglyphs - on the rocks in this area. They are very old carvings, it was a very special place.
Chocolate at the Rock Art Center
This is one of the petroglyhs. I wanted to touch it, but you're not allowed to. There were carvings of many animals, but no horses.
Chocolate at the Rock Art Center
This is as close as we could get to the carvings which were way up in the rocks. There are many, many carvings in this pile of rocks.
Chocolate at the Rock Art Center
Us on the rocks. The rocks were black and very hot, so we could not sit here very long!
Chocolate at the Rock Art Center
BillyBob looked at one of the carvings up on the hill.
Chocolate at the Rock Art Center
BillyBob's hat is in the way, or maybe you could see the neat carving up on the rocks.
Camelback Mountain
This is Camelback Mountain. 'Mom' went hiking here, but we stayed with 'Dad' in the car while he went to get gas, so he wouldn't get lost. It was too hot to hike, anyway. 'Mom' was kind of upset when she came down and we weren't there, though.
Chocolate at the Goldfield Ghost Town
This was BillyBob's favorite place - we went to a ghost town, called Goldfield! We didn't see any ghosts, but it was really neat!
Chocolate at the Goldfield Ghost Town
I couldn't go in the saloon, but BillyBob could - sheriffs can go where gunfighters go! He didn't see any gunfighters, though. They must have been on vacation.
Goldfield Ghost Town
We took a break and sat on the steps of the chapel. It was a nice place to rest.
Chocolate at the Goldfield Ghost Town
'Mom' and 'Dad' got some refreshments, so we took advantage of the shade, too.
Chocolate at the Goldfield Ghost Town
The old saloon. It was very picturesque.
Chocolate at the Goldfield Ghost Town
This mining cart was just our size! I wish we could have taken it home, it would be fun to ride on the street!
Chocolate at the Goldfield Ghost Town
This old outhouse was conveniently located ... I couldn't believe 'Dad' took this picture, though...
Chocolate at the Goldfield Ghost Town
BillyBob was guarding the explosives in case the gunfighters came back to town.

Chocolate at the Goldfield Ghost Town
Goldfield was a really cute town. It was very neat to see a place where old cowboys lived and wonder what life must have been like there. BillyBob did not want to leave, he said he felt right at home! It was a really good day!

Chocolate at the Goldfield Ghost Town
This is us in our 'pony tote' ... It was easier for 'Mom' to carry us like this. We got to sit on the seat in the car, though.
Chocolate using a blackboard
We went with 'Mom' and 'Dad' to their meetings one day. I got to write on the chalk board - this was something new. It was fun, but kind of messy, too.
Chocolate at a meeting
BillyBob was helping; he showed me where he thought I could improve my plan.
Chocolate at a meeting
BillyBob likes to teach. He went over everything with me while the meeting was at break. We had cookies at our meeting - that was fun!
Chocolate at a meeting
This is me hanging out with my new friend, Maria. She came all the way from Poland! I know that is very far away ... she brought us some chocolate, too! We had lots of fun and she played some computer games with me, too. I think I'd like to go to Poland, she says there are horses there!
Chocolate at the Goldfield Ghost Town
BillyBob found this in the meeting room. He thought it was very funny to see the insides of a human. We had a busy day at the meeting!
